The Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada

The Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada (founded in 1926 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a grassroots women’s initiative functioning within the Ukrainian Canadian community, providing programs to serve Ukrainian families from youth to old age.  Many branches from Quebec to British Columbia, currently serving a membership of approximately 3,000 members in 81 branches across Canada have contributed to our cultural and educational community building efforts.  Part of the Ukrainian Self Reliance League of Canada, UWAC is more than a women’s league, more than a cultural club;  UWAC is an independent entity, voluntarily committed to community and partnership for the unique needs and well-being of Canada’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church community.

Our main goal is to support and execute all manner of deeds and acts that contribute to the continual growth of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and encourage members to practice and live by the Christian principles as enunciated by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.

Our goals and objectives are

  1. To preserve, develop, and nurture the Ukrainian cultural heritage and traditions.
  2. To foster the principle of cultural cooperation within the Canadian society
  3. To focus on the education of our youth in Church Schools, Ukrainian Schools, Bilingual schools, and CYMK – Ukrainian Orthodox Youth
  4. To propagate and defend the aspirations of self-determination and human rights in all nations, with our focus directed to Ukraine by demonstrating support both morally and financially.
  5. To preserve the Ukrainian Cultural heritage – religion, language, customs, and traditions.
  6. To disseminate knowledge by publishing works of Ukrainian writers, historians, and journalists.
  7. To maintain the Ukrainian Museum of Canada of the UWAC, its branches and subsidiaries.
